Villa Tunjung - Other Information

Too many tourist destinations seek to dominate their surroundings – Villa Tunjung and Royal Residence Rangdu seek to do the opposite by finding ways to reduce the impact and increase the benefit to the community. Without a focus on sustainability, this harmonious relationship would not be possible - a principle that is so logical that it applies to all our activities here.

Villa Tunjung is essentially a low-impact destination. From the style of the architecture, which blends seamlessly into the landscape, to the relationship with the villagers, the entire ethos is one of mutual respect and trust. The villa itself is situated within the private park Royal Residence Rangdu (RRR) of (ultimately) nine luxury residential villas – all built in traditional Balinese-style, with enough greenery and space so as to ensure privacy. Just inside the main entry gate is a small compound where the security, kitchen and household services, drivers and gardeners are located.

Desa Rangdu, (Rangdu Village) is a small, unassuming community of about 500 families, roughly 10-minutes drive from the North Coast. The road to the mountains wends its way upwards from the small coastal town of Seririt through verdant sawas (rice paddies), passing by Rangdu on its way to the highlands at centre of the island. You won’t find any hotels in the neighbourhood. Or shops. Or bars. Or restaurants. Just village life, which goes on around you from sunrise to sunset, minding it’s own business, but greeting you with a broad smile should you happen to witness any of its captivating aspects. And you will. With so much happening on your doorstep you cannot fail to be part of it. Weddings and christenings, harvests and plantings, prayers and offerings weave their way in and out of your consciousness like wisps of incense wafting from roadside temples. The Hindu religion prevalent here forms a seamless part of everyday existence. It’s not part of a show – its daily life, North Bali style.
